PUMPKIN

Adopted!

TRIXIE

ADOPTED!

Trixie was found  running the streets of Collierville.  She is a very sweet and submissive dog.  We have her update on all her shots and we give her INTERCEPTOR heart worm medicine and frontline every month.  Also she is spayed.  She would make a great indoor dog.  She weighs about 20 - 25 pounds.

TIMMY

ADOPTED!

Hi! My name is Timmy. I was rescued from the Tipton County Shelter. I’m a Jack Russell mix about 2 years old; but I’m not as hyper as most Jack Russell’s are. I’m about 14 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh about 20 pounds. I’m crate-trained, housebroken and heartworm negative; and I’m neutered and up-to-date on my shots. I like playing with the other dogs here at my foster family’s house; but my favorite thing to do is to curl up on my foster mom’s lap and snuggle in tight. I like children but I don’t like cats. I’m ready for a forever home. Are you the family for me?

 Name:  LIL BITTY KITTY
LIL BITTY KITTY

ADOPTED!
This kitten was one of a litter of tiny kittens found in a box at an apartment building when they were about 4 or 5 weeks old. The siblings thrived, but this lil bitty kitty did not. One of our volunteers decided to take it home and bottle feed it until it was strong enough to survive. Lil Bitty Kitty is now about 7 months old and very healthy. He is great with children and is fine with dogs. This little guy would make any family a wonderful companion.

 Name:  MISHA
MISHA

ADOPTED!
Misha is an adult female Persian cat. She is up-to-date on shots and spayed. She is Feline Leukemia and AIDs negative. She has a great temperament and is good with dogs. She does have some very small nostrils and has a tendency to snort and snore at night.

Rosie

ADOPTED!

"Rosie Red"  is a sweet little Basenji-lab mix. She is about 17 inches tall and is full grown. She and her twin sister, "Bonnie Blue," were dumped on my doorstep. Bonnie Blue has just been adopted, so now it's just lil' Rosie. Rosie Red is fabulous with children (has been raised with a 3-year old and a 5-year old), great with other animals (horses, dogs, cats, etc.), very sweet and tender, remarkably calm, an excellent watch dog, and just wants people to love on her. She is up to date on shots.

Brijit

ADOPTED!

This is Brijit, a beautiful 7 year old black and white female cocker spaniel.  Her owner was forced to surrender her due to a move, but she is adjusting well to her new foster home.  She is small for a cocker and weighs only about 18lbs.  She is very sweet and will make an excellent family pet.  She likes kids and is still very playful, but is also happy just sitting in your lap.  She loves playing ball.  She gets along with other dogs.  She is housebroken, crate trained, and does not chew.  Brijit is also heartworm negative, spayed, and current on all her shots.

BROWNIE

ADOPTED!

Brownie is a male mixed breed that was found as a small pup in the Wolf River bottoms. He is now approximately 7 months old & is very sweet but a bit shy at first with strangers. He is a very good with other dogs, playful and very sweet. His current weight is 25-30 lbs.

Izzy

ADOPTED after being dumped out of a car in traffic!

Izzy (whose name must have been Gizmo, or Izzy, or something that rhymes, as he INSTANTLY knew his name) was put out of (presumably) his owner’s car on a road near Stage on Saturday, Dec. 17th.  He proceeded to chase ‘HIS’ person’s car down the road as they headed toward Stage, causing them to stop at least twice to keep from hitting him. Jamey (A GAPR Foster mom)  witnessed this horrific scene and began following to try to save the dog.  Izzy ended up on Stage Road, 6 lanes + a turn lane, crazy holiday shopping traffic, and several kind strangers stopped to help her catch the terrified tiny (less than 10 lbs) Shih Tzu.She managed to corral the sweet boy, only to find his coat was matted all over to at least ½ thickness resembling gray felt.  He was a little smelly, as you can imagine, but now safe thanks to this Guardian Angel’s bravery in moving traffic. Izzy was brought to another GA volunteer, Julie, for fostering.  Deb Homas gave Julie the option of taking Izzy instead of another dog she was slated to foster.  Since Julie was IN Bartlett to pick up two other dogs her sister and brother in love had agreed to foster, Izzy was quickly transferred. Julie spent two hours that evening (Izzy had to wait for Julie to get done performing in her church Christmas program) trimming ever-so-gently the dirty, sour smelling, felted mat of fur from his body.  Repeatedly, he would tire of the process and Julie would cuddle him, while scratching his skin under the mat where she had been able to loosen it.  He would relax as her fingers would massage his skin that had not been touched on God only knows how long.  His eyes would close in pleasure and his tiny body would relax.  Izzy is a young dog—between 1 & 2 years…so he has NEVER known any tender loving care for his high maintenance coat. Once the mat was cut off, Julie had two pieces of intact mat that look like a tiny felt coat and pants, plus four other mats that were cut off Izzy’s legs.  A little HAIRSUIT as it were.  Izzy’s tail and ears were also fully matted—so squishy Julie feared that it was infection and not matting….but it turned out simply to be mats. Amazingly, Izzy’s skin beneath his own gray fur felted into a hair suit, was totally devoid of any sores or blemishes.  Only one GIGANTOR flea was found in the process….so God was looking out for this baby despite his owner’s lack of care and attention.   He didn’t really know what to think of the bath he got, but he LOVED the towel drying process…can’t you just imagine how good it felt to him to feel his fur and skin being massaged. The next day, Izzy went to be neutered, vaccinated and tested for heartworms.   To complicate matters, he had only one descended testicle, so he had a pretty rough surgery that he endured.  BUT the best news was that he was heartworm negative.  This and the fact that he had only one flea indicates that he must have lived indoors…which makes it impossible to imagine how his owners could look at his ever matting fur and not respond appropriately. Izzy was also moderately underweight.  But he has spent the two weeks since catching up.  He does show some food bowl aggression, but he and new parents working through it.  He LOVES plush toys, his chew hoof and to chase his tail.  He’s very self entertaining….and will carefully pick up all the toys and carry them to his bed.  A very helpful little boy who keeps his toys put away. Julie’s sister and brother in love (the Hardins who moved here in July from Virginia), having been drafted to foster the Lhasa and Lhasa Poo from MAS who arrived at nearly the same moment Jamey showed up with Izzy, fell HARD and FAST in love with the little angel.  Izzy has been adopted by the Hardins, who have extensive dog ownership experience—with Lhasa’s (who both died of OLD age at 14 & 15) and their current dog, Bailey—a wonderful beagle rescued from the Currituck (VA) animal shelter. Yes, the Hardins are still busy fostering the other dogs as well—but they share the philosophy that there’s room in the Inn for fur babies in need. So, now you know the rest of the story….how what seemed at first to be the worst day of a dog’s life was actually the day he won the doggie lottery. If not for Jamey’s quick, caring response in the face of what could have been an horrific tragedy, Izzy’s life would have ended in the middle of a busy, 6-lane suburban street on a chilly winter day a week before Christmas.  Jamey TRULY is a Guardian Angel….of the finest kind.        GO JAMEY…

GADGET

ADOPTED!

Death row dog from Tipton Co. Tennessee kill shelter finds family in Massachusetts to love her forever

The Alderman's, especially Eddie, were elated to welcome Gadget into their hearts and home on Friday, December 30th.  They met her around 5 p.m. and returned to their relative's home in Raleigh around 10 pm.  It was a long day, but well worth it…as you can tell from the smiles on everyone's faces. Originally, Annette, Mrs. Alderman, found Gadget on the Tipton County shelter website.  We pulled her from the shelter the second week of December and I quickly agreed to foster her.   We knew some lady from near Boston, Massachusetts  (Annette) was interested per the Tipton Co. Shelter folks, but both Deb and I said, yeah, right…too far…yadda yadda. WELL, Annette recognized how special Gadget was and quickly called Debbie to assure GAPR that they wanted Gadget…even sending an attestation letter from their vet. Deb and I realized that Annette was SERIOUS about Gadget and so Annette filled out all the paperwork and paid the fees, etc.  I even had detailed instructions on what to buy for Gadget's Christmas presents…(that's when I knew that Annette was real--she's like me!--scary, huh?) I fostered this sweet, smart, charming girl through her spay and the Christmas Holidays….as Kyle's transport was on hiatus for the season.  When the holidays were ending, the Alderman's learned that Kyle's transport was full up…and this put them in a bind, as Eddie's birthday was Jan 2nd and they had hoped to have their new family member in time for his birthday.  I said, let me see what I can do.  You see, Eddie has never NOT had a dog.  Their original terrier mix, Gizmo, died at age 17 in September.  He was truly Eddie's BIG BROTHER…and Ed and Annette, the parents were determined to get Gadget to her boy. SO, I enlisted the aid of Molli Bowen, of CPR Pet rescue and transport.  Molli posted the run sheets from afar....she was in Cookeville, TN….on Tuesday…for a run to take place on Friday…during the holidays…nothing like a little pressure to get the blood going, to quote Molli.  Her fearless volunteers had all legs of the transport filled by 6 a.m. of the posting day and the remaining leg was split by the two volunteers on either side.  PLUS…the Aldermans drove 3 hours one way from Raleigh NC... to complete the last leg. You can see by the pictures above that GADGET got her boy…and both are happy as they can be. Another great ending for GAPR.  I wish all our adoptive families were like the Aldermans.  And I sure am glad Molli Bowen is one of my rescue sisters.

HARLEY

ADOPTED!

Harley is a 25  pound (fully grown) Corgi mix.  He is about 1 1/2 years old. His wrinkled forehead and floppy ears give him his classic, always adorable look. He is a very unique mix of brown and black. His coat is short haired   with a touch of dapple  pattern , which gives him a most desirable appeal.  He is eager to love and always willing to play.  Harley is the perfect family pet and is happy to be inside or out.  His personality will win over hearts young and old. You will never again "want" for a PLAYFUL PUP.

Note & Photos from forever family:

Harley and Duchess

Deb, didn't turn out as good as I thought.  This is what happens when Harley and Duchess play tug of war for hours, and I mean constantly play.  Both retire to the large rest area and catch a nap or two.  Then it's outside for the both to play and run.  What a joy Harley has brought into our home.  It has brought back life to our old Great Dane.  Before Harley Duchess slept most of the time.  Now, well you just have to see it to believe it.  Thanks to you, Jen and Mike for the guidance during our looking for another dog.  The work you and the entire Guardian Angel Pet Rescue crew do, it's unbelievable.  Bless you all and look forward to meeting you in the future.  Thanks, Stan

SADIE

ADOPTED!

If you are looking for the perfect companion, look no further.  Sadie has the most awesome disposition – she is sweet, gentle and loving.  She is somewhat of a couch potato, but will definitely get up and dance a jig to greet you.  She loves to be petted and thinks she is a lapdog.  She loves everyone she meets, men, women and children.  She is good with other dogs and cats.  Sadie is a Flat Coat Retriever mix and she is about six years old.  She is up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and spayed.  She is housebroken and way past the chewing stage.  She does need to lose a few pounds, but that is what happens to us women as we get older.

~fostered by Debbie Homas~

Copper

adopted!

If you are looking for the perfect family pet, stop- you found him.  This is Copper, a 1-2 year old, red cocker.  He weighs about 20 lbs.  He loves kids and is good with other dogs too.  He is very affectionate and is an excellent companion.  He is housebroken, crate trained, and does not chew.  He is neutered, heartworm negative, and current on all his shots.  His only fault is he likes to sing if left alone so he would not do well in apartment setting.  Please consider this wonderful dog if you are looking for a forever friend.

CHESSIE   (kill shelter photo)

ADOPTED!

 Rescue date 12-22-05

We rescued this  8 month old girl from death row at the Memphis Animal Shelter.  More info will be posted soon. Here's what one of our shelter monitors had to say about choosing her...

She will make an AMAZING pet - very, VERY sweet and  beautiful. She is about 8 months old and I just sat next to her cage  till the shelter closed. She has been there for over 2 weeks though and WILL BE put down this week - if not Monday or Tuesday. She's the  next to die in the adoption section. We have to find her a home - she is unique and  will make a perfect house pet. ~Sydney

Hello Guardian Angels,
I just wanted to let you know that Harrison is making himself at home with us. Of course, he is still checking everything and everyone out. He has slept under every bed and decided that he will sleep with our son Michael. Today, he let me brush his hair and he laid down and rolled over so I could keep brushing. That must feel so good. Then he explored the house - every nook and cranny. He just purred as he walked around. And of course, we are just fascinated with him. Richard had asked that I let him know how he was - so please tell him Harrison is settling in just fine.

Also, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful work you do. I cant understand how anyone can mistreat a pet or abandon them. Thank the Lord for your group who take them in and find them homes. Thanks for our new boy Harrison.

Charlotte and Eddie Martin

TRIXIE

ADOPTED!

This cutie is named Trixie. She was rescued from the Tipton County Shelter. She is about 1 year old, 15 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs about 20 pounds. She is already crate-trained, housebroken and heartworm negative. She has also been spayed. She loves to play with other dogs and has a lot of energy, so please make sure you have a lot of toys for her to play with. She is a total "lap dog" and is ready for a forever family.  NO CATS!!

Boomer

ADOPTED!

My name is Boomer and I am so handsome.  People are not exactly sure of my heritage. There is a possibility of some Akita, maybe Norwegian Elkhound - nobody really knows for sure .  I am neutered, up-to-date on shots and heartworm negative. I LOVE people - adults and children alike.  I am very good with children.  I also love other dogs.  But I sometimes I play too hard and they get irritated and growl at me and then I growl back and then the fight is on.  So, I would probably be better with just children to play with. I might be okay with a very submissive, patient dog.  But I would make a great family dog.

GRACIE

ADOPTED!

My name is Gracie. I am 6 ½ years old Cocker Spaniel. I was rescued from the animal shelter and am still a little sad that I was abandoned. I am a very laid back girl and love to spend my time laying at my foster mom's feet. I also love to be petted and hugged. I get along with other dogs as long as they know I am in charge and don't bother me too much. Kids are fine too. I am very well behaved and am housebroken.

BEATTY

ADOPTED!

DORSEY

ADOPTED!

MURPHY

Adopted!

What's up? My name is Murphy, and I am the biggest of my 2 other siblings. I am playful, and I sometimes "talk" to get your attention, or attention from my foster dog buddies. My foster mom told me I look like a lab mix, but I have small feet too, so it's going to be a surprise whatever size I get! I love other dogs, people, kids, everyone! I am a very hearty eater, and my foster mom has to tell me when to stop eating. I am crate trained, and still trying to figure out what "house-training" is. Won't you take me to my forever home and teach me??

FRED

ADOPTED!

Fred was found on 9/19 outside Fred's at Summer and White Station. He had been hanging out outside the store for about 5 hours with no water or food. He had a collar mark on his neck but no collar. He was very friendly with everyone and he let his rescuer pick him up immediately. He is good with children and other dogs, big and small. He loves attention and will whine at you if you don't give him enough love. Fred is kind of a pig so you have to make sure he doesn't eat everyone's food. I think he is pretty much house trained but he does mark - that should be remedied once he is fixed. He sleeps in a crate at the foot of his foster mom's bed at night and sometimes she catches him hanging out in there during the day. He is also good on a leash.

Nikolai

ADOPTED!

This is the dog that you have been waiting for. His name is Nikolai and he is a pure bred Samoyed. Nikolai is around four years old and was found starving wandering the streets. He was heartworm positive when his angel found him. But those days are long past. Nikolai can entertain himself for hours with throwing his toys up in the air and catching them. But he also loves to play with other dogs. Nikolai is the rare specimen of creature that just loves to be with anything and anyone. Any family would be lucky to call him their own.

COOKIE

ADOPTED!

She is heartworm negative, spayed and current on shots.  She does have a cherry eye that needs repair. More info on its way.....

BUDDY

ADOPTED!

He is between 1 and 2 years old.  About 12 lbs, very sweet temperament, but does not like small children.  He is heartworm negative, current on shots, and neutered.  He is crate-trained.  He would make a wonderful companion for a couple who are not planning on children and do not have children in the home on a regular basis.  He is definitely a lap baby.

Jack_Adopted.jpg

JACK

Adopted!

This sweet boy's name is Jack. He is incredibly friendly with everyone; other dogs, people and kids. He loves to play. Jack doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. He is so great, he wants to be loved and petted all the the time. He is completely house-trained and crate-trained. Jack is full-grown, and about 10 months old. He knows his name, and knows how to play fetch. I can't find one reason why this dog wouldn't be perfect for any family. He has so much love to give, won't you take him to his forever home?

HOLLY

ADOPTED!

Hi, I'm Holly.  I'm a Rotweiler mix and am 1 year old.  I was on the streets and starving.  A Guardian Angel saw me digging for worms to eat and rescued me right before the snow storm last December.  I am house trained and kennel trained.  I get along with all humans and other dogs.  If your looking for a playful dog who loves to snuggle, then I'm your girl

Henry

Adopted!

Hi! My name is Henry. I was found starving on the streets of midtown about 2 months ago. I have some scars from my long life, but other than that, I think I am quite handsome. I was taken in by a girl with 2 other dogs and 4 cats. I was okay until recently when I realized that I do not want to share my girl anymore. I want to be an only dog with lots of love and attention from my human. People guess that I am about 8 years old. I look like a boxer mix and I weigh 66 lbs. I am a neutered male in need of a good, loving home. I get very upset when other dogs or cats are around, so it is necessary for me to be your only animal. I absolutely love being the focus of people’s attention. I am completely housebroken and I am very well behaved. I love to cuddle on the couch with people and let them scratch and rub me. I smile and always give big hugs! I just received all of my shots in December of 2004. I am heartworm negative and I am on Interceptor for my heartworm preventative. I also had a full blood panel done and they say I am in perfect health! I have all of my medical records for you to keep.

Skyewalker

ADOPTED!

Size: Small             Age: puppy 6 mos.         Sex: Male         Health:  excellent

Temperament:  Excellent – NO issues—loves to play   Crate trained & housetrained

Current on shots/vacs.…will be neutered when possible
Skyewalker was surrendered to the shelter by his owners who did not have the ability to treat his case of demodex (NON CONTAGIOUS) mange.   He has since totally recovered from his skin condition and is seeking a loving family who wants a puppy to call their own.  Skye loves kids SOOOO much, it is a requirement of his adoption that he have a family with children.

Although his parentage is unknown, Skyewalker has been identified by a WTNBCR rescue expert as Jack Russell/Border collie mix.  This combo always results in a small dog that loves kids, melts into your lap for loving, and that loves other dogs, in spite of being somewhat shy with humans.  Skyewalker is NOT, repeat NOT hyper at all…in fact, he’s eerily calm, but that is his BC shyness/reserve.

He’s very, very smart.  There’s no limit to what this dog may be taught.  That makes him an excellent companion.  DO NOT miss out on this sweet boy.

All Applicants will be screened, and references will be checked.

FYI—border collies are so named because they originate in the region where Scotland and England border each other.  Hence, this dog’s name is spelled SKYE after the Isle of Skye…

LeBron          &                Kobi

Both Adopted!

My name is LeBron  and the other guy is my brother, Kobi.  We just turned 3mo. the middle of Sept. We're currently living with my brother in his adoptive home. His adoptive family couldn't take all three of us, but offered to foster me and my brother until we could find our own permanent loving homes. Our foster mom says we're the calmest, smartest puppies she's ever met and we're working really hard on our housetraining. She also told us we'd be pros on the leash in just a few weeks. Oh yeah, we've being taught not to beg, but... could we please have a bunch of raw-hide bones and chew toys at our new home/s. After all, our foster mom says they taste better than furniture. So far, we've taken her word for it. Pssst... This is LeBron again. I'm not trying to brag, but I think I'm  bravest of all my brothers. I'm always the first to investigate a new thing and I'm the first to introduce myself to any new human or animal. I love rough-housing with my brothers, but I can cuddle up with you for a belly rub too. If you choose me, I'll check everything out for to make sure it is safe.

Pssst... This is Kobi. My brother thinks I'm not as brave as he is because I let him check stuff out first. Truth is, I'm his back-up. I honestly think I'm the best looking of the bunch and I wouldn't want anything to happen to this pretty face. Ever heard the expression... I'm a lover, not a fighter. That's me. I love to cuddle and belly rubs are the best. If you choose me, I'll be your faithful friend forever.

  • Leash trained

  • DOES NOT like children

  • LOVES attention

  • Loves to go on errands in cool weather

i, my name is Gizmo.  Let me tell you my story.  A really nice family in Middle Tennessee was out walking their poodle, Alex, one day, when Alex heard my cries and struggles from a deep ditch.  He’s my hero!  I had tried to climb down to get a drink of water because I was very thirsty.  Something bad had happened to me.  I was stuck in a bramble bush (as you tell from my coat, I have perfect hair to catch and tangle in briers).  The nice people struggled to free me.  I quickly realized they were helping me, so I calmed down and waited while they freed me from my prison.  I was a filthy, wet, matted mess.  They took me home, cleaned me up, and gave me water and food. They took me to the vet (a doctor, they tell me) and he discovered I had blunt trauma (a boo boo) on my head.  They surmised I had either been thrown from a car or hit by one.  That’s how I got into that ditch to start with.   That was four months ago.  My new family tried every thing to help me adjust to their home.  But, there were children there and I just don’t like little kids.  Somewhere in my past I had a bad experience with one or two and my nerves can’t take them.  I hope you understand and do not think badly of me for it. When I snapped at the little girl, the family knew they had to locate a better situation for me and that’s how I got into RESCUE.  They cried when they left me.  It was hard for them to let me go.  I have been in Memphis for a month now and I LOVE my foster mom and sibling dogs & cats.  The cats are fun to follow around.  But they run sometimes and I have to run to keep up.  My foster mom doesn’t like this, so I am learning better manners.  Those cats are funny.  Not ha-ha, you know? We run and play and I get lots of good food and water and pets.  I sleep in my crate each night beside her bed.  She works during the day and I rest in my crate while she’s away.  But when she gets home, I take EVERY step that she does.  I am very nimble and do not trip her…which takes some skill, since she’s kinda clumsy.  DON”T TELL HER I SAID SO.  I am fully grown.  My health report is perfect:  no heartworms & on preventive, current on vaccinations, and neutered.  My house manners are perfect.  I am very calm and serene in the house.  I do not have accidents inside.  I do not chew anything that I shouldn’t.  I get along well with the foster dogs and cats.  I prefer the company of my human to all others.   My ideal home will be with a family without children where I can be the child!  BUT, I am very friendly and play well with others, so if I had a brother or sister, I think that would be great, too.  I LOVE to be petted and loved on.  You could easily become the center of my world.  I can’t wait to adore you.    Disclaimer:  This dog does not like children, so PLEASE, if you have children, do not respond to this posting.  He is not vicious.  But, he won’t get over it or adjust.  He will, however, urinate, defecate (to EXPRESS his discomfort) in your home and snap at the children—if there are any that live there or visit frequently. He was clearly abused by children in his former life and needs no further stress of this sort.

Winn Dixie

Breed:  Airedale/???? Mix      Size: medium -35 lbs & 18 inches tall       Age: adult 5+ years

Sex: Spayed female       Health:  excellent & current on vaccinations

Temperament:  Excellent – NO issues—loves to play   House trained & crate trained

Good with other dogs, cats, kids, people

Winn Dixie was rescued from the Memphis Animal Shelter on the day she was to be euthanized.  Dixie has a cataract on her right eye, but she has excellent vision out of her left eye.  Dixie was sick with heartworms, but has been treated and is on preventive.  She is fun loving and playful, but is totally content to lie at your feet.  She’s a ‘velcro’ dog, preferring the companionship of her person to that of all other creatures.

Dixie loves to be brushed and bathed.  She has the lovely coloration and wiry coat of an

Airedale terrier, but has a naturally docked tail and rounded rump seen in herding dogs.  However, Dixie does not show any of the bad traits of terriers or herding dogs.

Won’t you open your heart and home to this lovely girl?

Bounce is my name and playing ball is my game!

Bounce was rescued from the Memphis Animal Shelter on the day she was to be euthanized.  She is fun loving and playful, but is totally content to lie at your feet.  She’s a ‘velcro’ dog, preferring the companionship of her person to that of all other creatures.

Bounce is the best ball dog I have ever seen.  She will bring the ball right to your feet….all she asks is that you be willing to play ball with her for a little while every day.  She has the body of a Lhasa and the lovely curly coat of a poodle.  She’s smart as a whip and sweeter than pie.  While she will sit in your lap for a bit, she prefers to rest at your feet.  With other dogs, Bounce can be a bit bossy….barking until she gets her way, but she is never aggressive towards other animals or people.  She is an excellent watch dog…barking only when her person needs to be alerted.

B.J.  & his new "brother"

ADOPTED!

Handsome fella in search of loving family…kids preferred, but not required….BJ’s my name and snugglin’ is my game!

Size: Small             Age: Adult 5-7               Sex: Male         Health:  excellent

Vaccines:  current on all vaccines; heartworm negative & on preventive.

Temperament:  Excellent – NO issues!! BJ was surrendered by owners who had kept him confined in the back yard for all of his life.  They were moving and of course, dogs were not allowed wherever they were going.  We believe that he has had some issues with men in the past. He has been great with the men in our family, but we are all animal lovers and dogs sense this.  BJ also LOVES children…he had two in his original home.

When BJ arrived he had a heavy case of heartworms, but he has been treated successfully and is on heart worm preventative. BJ has no issues and is a real joy to be with.   Since he’s recovered from his heartworms, his energy level is very normal.  He is not hyper at all.  In fact, for a Jack Russell, he’s VERY LOW KEY.  He’s housebroken and gets along well with all of his foster siblings (cats and dogs).  He even likes the horses!

Please consider BJ if you are willing to share the love he so desires.

LIL MO

ADOPTED!

Mo is a Shep/Chow mix that we rescued from the Memphis Animal Shelter. He was 2 years  old in Feb.  Lil Mo is one of the best dogs I have ever fostered. Mo is as pretty on the inside as he is on the outside.  He is house trained and well mannered also.  He gets along with all the dogs and cats in my home.  Mo has never shown any aggression to anyone.  Now that does not mean he will not bark.  He is a great guard dog. Once he knows everything is safe and no one is going to hurt you he settles right down and is ready for loving from the guest.   He loves to snuggle and does not move as other dogs and cats walk all over his body as he rests.  Mo is a snuggle bug with humans even as large as he is.  He is fantastic with men, women, children, dogs and cats. Not one thing in my home has been damaged by him, not even his toys.  Mo is 23 “ tall and weighs 58 lbs.

Sima

ADOPTED!

Sima was dumped out on the side of the road outside of the West Memphis Animal Shelter. We are not sure how long she hid in the ditch before some of our Angels spotted her. She was so afraid of people at this point that she ran and hid from us every time we passed by her. It was obvious to us that what little human contact she had had was not good. As the day progressed Sima became more and more scared and eventually crawled into the drainage pipe under the road. We spent roughly two and half-hours trying to coax her out of the pipe. It was cold and the day was almost gone but we refused to leave her out there all alone. Finally we were able to get her out. She was so scared and so little that everyone’s heart broke a little. Sima went home with one of our Angels and hid behind the sofa for a day and a half and was finally coaxed out by Dallas, another GAPR dog and Sima’s new best friend. For the next few days Sima would only initiate play with the other animals but not her Foster Mom and Dad. About fours days went by and then we were all outside and Sima actually came up to me and put her legs up for me to pick her up. She had finally accepted that she was safe from me. It has been two weeks and Sima has come out of her shell and is a very playful puppy. She is still a little hesitant about new people but she has crossed the biggest hurtle in knowing that not all people are bad. Sima has renewed my faith in animal rescue. It is very hard to have the ugliness of mankind’s plight to beat, maim, and abandon animals thrown in your face on a daily basis. When a puppy like Sima comes along we are thankful that we were able to save her and show her that there are people in this world that will love her and protect her. Sima’s name means found treasure and that is certainly what she has been for her foster family.  ~Fostered by Matt & Lisa St. Thomas~

Hi Lisa-

I am at home and do not have your direct email here (it's at work) but I was eager to tell you some good news about Sima so I thought I would try this!
Last night Kris and I took Sima for her first walk on a leash.  We tried it with just her collar and a leash and that didn't work too well, so we put Oscar's Halti (have you ever tried those?) on her and she walked like a dream!  We walked for 3 miles together and she seemed to have really enjoyed herself!  She was a little frightened of other humans (especially males) walking past, but even adjusted to that after a little while.  We are so proud of her...everyday Sima accomplishes things we didn't think possible.  She is a great companion (she's lying at my feet right now) and we are all so happy to have her be a part of the family.  Take care Lisa!

ELVIS

ADOPTED!

Howdy, my name is Elvis.  I got lost from my original home several months ago and can’t remember where I came from.  Anyway, I am a handsome 45-50 lb. male black lab mix and about 1 year old.  I have an easy going personality and like attention, but can easily entertain myself.  My former owners cared for me quite well so I am very sociable with other people, dogs, and I especially like children. I have lots of positive qualitiesI am house trained, crate trained, leash trained and I know several commands such as sit, stay, kennel, etc.  I love to play with other dogs and am interested in cats, but will not harm them.  Also, I seldom bark, I love being outdoors but do not dig, I have been neutered, and I am current on all my shots.  If you want a laid back, medium sized furry friend, I am anxious to meet you.  Please inquire about me with my friends at Guardian Angel.

ANNIE

Adopted!

Here is Annie.  She is precious.  Loves kids, other dogs, and will run and play a long time and then walk up to you and sit and put out her paw to shake.  She is fully vetted, spayed & on heartworm medication.  She was born the last of January, 2005.  She was getting in everyone's garden in the country where she was running loose so she was taken in by  by a good samaritan.    She sits, shakes and loves to be pet and hugged on...very gentle disposition.  She is a fantastic family pet.  I cannot say enough good about her.  I would love to find  her a great home.  I doubt she would do well with a cat, but I don't know that.  I know she tries to get squirrels and birds, so probably she would chase anything furry.  We know her dad looked beagle mix and her mom spitz mix.  They are both very smart dogs and Annie has proven to be very smart.  She minds well and only barks for a reason.  I let her in the house for an hour today and she loved laying around on a blanket and then I let her out and the first thing she did was go to the bathroom in the yard, so she had waited until she went outside.  She had never been in a house and was very mannerly.  I would love to give her to someone wonderful that wants a good loving pet. Thanks for any help you can give me.  I can be reached at this email or

Renee

Note from new owner

2005/07/20 Wed AM 12:08:01 EDT

I would love to thank you for sending my little angel. I am 14 and my cat died last year and I was devastated. A few weeks ago my family and I walked into Superpetz in Bartlett and this beautiful grey kitten caught my eye. I had wanted a cat forever and this one talked my mom into it. You let us take her home. Thank you, she is a blessing.  Here are the pictures that I promised of Lacy (Renee).  She is doing great!   Keep in touch.         Sarah

DAZZLE

Katrina is the sweetest cat. She gets along with other cats just fine. She is not shy and she has a non-stop motor when it comes to purring. She promises to smother her new forever family with plenty of leg rubs, kisses and hours of lap-sitting.  The family that chooses her will be very pleased. This girl is a keeper!

JODEE

Jodee is sweet tabby cat that was found abandoned in an apartment nursing kittens and nearly starved to death. She is very loving to people and enjoys being held and scratched all over. Please give this sweet girl the forever home she deserves.

MEG

ADOPTED!

Meg is a sweet 60 lb. St. Bernard/Chow mix rescued from death row at the Memphis Animal Shelter. She just celebrated her first birthday in November 2004 and although she enjoyed her party  here at her foster home she would love spend her next birthday with her forever family! She is housebroken and crate trained and UTD on all her shots and currently attending obedience training sessions. She is submissive to other dogs, loves cats and is very very gentle. She does great with kids- even little kids who just want to pull on her ears and tail. She is a cuddlebug and the most loving dog I have ever encountered. She has a little squeaking noise she makes when you have been away and come back to pet her and it is the closest thing I have ever heard to a dog purring!!! She would love to have a family where someone was home most of the time, or at least not away for extended periods. Meg has had a rough time over her short life, and just wants someone to love her forever.

BLUE

adopted!

Hi! I guess they call me Blue because of my pretty blue eyes. I am very sweet, and love all other animals and people and kids. And I especially love to play with dogs much bigger than me! I am about 7 or 8  weeks old, I'm not really sure because my mom never told me. Actually, I don't know anything about her at all, so how big I will grow is a complete mystery! My foster mom told me I have the coloring of a shepherd, but I have pretty small feet, and my two brothers look like black lab mixes. So it's really anyone's guess about how big (or small) I will be. I am crate trained, and still working on house-training. Won't you take me to my forever home??

ROCKY

adopted!

Check out Letters from Forever Families to read an update from Rocky's new dad

Yo. My name is Rocky. I am a gorgeous male Border Collie mix with an awesome personality. I am neutered, up-to-date on shots and heartworm negative. I was rescued from the Horn Lake Animal Shelter on the day that I was to be euthanized. One look at my face on the website and my foster Mom was a goner. I would make a great family dog. I love everyone - even cats. I do have one fault however - I tend to not like others eating out of my plate. So, you will have to feed me away from your other dogs. .

NASH

adopted!

Nash is the sweetest little puppy. He is about 11 weeks old as of 5/19. He gets along great with other dogs, and all people. He is good with small children, and has been very well socialized. His house-training abilities are going really well, he seldom has accidents anymore. Nash is the perfect puppy. He loves to play, but is also content to sleep on your lap while you watch a movie. His mother was about as tall as a person's knee, and he probably won't get more than 20lbs. Any family would be blessed to have Nash as their new addition.
