Barbara Snodgras,
CEO For the month of April the Volunteer Spotlight is on one of our Co-Founder & CEO Ms. Barbara Snodgras. Barbara's vision of a non-breed specific pet rescue became a reality in 2001 after noticing many wonderful adoptable pets being destroyed at local shelters while pure breed dogs sometimes had rescue groups coming in to adopt them. She began her rescue career as a foster parent with Pug Rescue of Memphis, TN. After adopting 2 retired racing greyhounds she began taking in strays from local shelters, providing medical care at her own expense and holding adoption days at local pet stores with 4 or 5 pets with only the help of her daughters and Co-Founder Dana Czech. Very quickly this small rescue turned into a very large operation taking on a life of its own and very often taking away her valuable personal time. Yet, seven years later, she is still going strong, paying the bills, processing adoption paperwork, running pets all over the city, vaccinating, dispensing medicine, running adoption days, making the hard decisions, daytime as well as middle of the night emergency vet visits and is always willing to be the one to hold a pet in her arms during its last moments on earth if all efforts to save it have failed. She does it all while on the phone planning her next rescue task. Our hats are off to you Barbara. |

DEBBIE HOMAS, PRESIDENT For the month of May '09 the Volunteer Spotlight is on our President Ms. Debbie Homas. Debbie began her adventure with GAPR in early 2002 after she adopted a dog named Cody from our organization. Shortly after she volunteered to foster an entire litter of 8 chow mix puppies. From that moment on she was hooked and became one of our most involved foster parents in our history. She literally volunteers to do everything. She fosters, goes to the shelters, returns all phone calls and emails, runs adoption days, writes bios for the websites, transports pets, takes pets to the vet and possesses an uncanny ability to match pets with the right adopters. She does all these things while raising 3 children and holding down a full time job. It didn't take long before she took over the role of President in 2004 and is really the voice of GAPR. There is truly nothing Debbie wouldn't do in her endless, relentless fight to help those who cannot help themselves. Our hats are off to you Debbie.
