Just a little can save a life!!

Rescue Angels

Tail tucked between your legs,
Confusion in your eyes-
I know it's hard to understand
That Someone heard your cries.

The medicine to make you well
Good food to make you strong,
And finally to help you learn,
That hugs are never wrong.

When loneliness is all you know
and pain is all you feel-
And no one can be trusted,
And hunger's all too real.

The perfect place then must be found-
The home where you can live
Secure and safe and happy-
With joy to get and give.

That's the time the Lord sees you
And lets you know He's there.
That's when He sends His messengers-
The hearts that love and care.

When you reach your Forever Home,
Your place to feel whole,
The Angels smile, and off they go-
To save another soul

Adoption Donation is required at time of adoption.

Dogs: $125

Puppies: $145 (includes all puppy shots and rabies)

We require a $25.00 refundable spay/neuter deposit for puppies that are too young for surgery.

Includes: shots, de-worming, flea control, spay/neuter, heartworm test & prevention, &  ID tag.

Most of the available dogs seen on this page are in GAPR foster homes, but we do post some dogs as a courtesy to other people.  Please be aware that if you do adopt a dog that is a courtesy posting & was not already in a GAPR foster home and it does not work out, you will have to keep that dog in your home until a foster home opening occurs.  Foster home openings are very scarce, so please be aware of this.  The dog will have to go through the same approval process and be adopted through us again.

GINGER

Ginger is a young dog, probably between 1-2, playful, and has obviously formed a primary bond with people, rather than another dog. She is currently living in our garage, (which is cooler than outside!), and hasn't chewed anything or had any accidents. She is the sweetest dog, she loves to lick and is good with our kids. She is not aggressive around other dogs, but a little hesitant--she can be talked through it though. She really is a wonderful dog, we would keep her if we could. She has been heartworm tested and is heartworm free. She also has had a set of shots and is scheduled for spay.

CHEVY

Hi, My name is Chevy, and I was born in Millington by a breeder who because I was the runt did not want me.... I know this because I ran away to look for food, and the lady who found me thought I was lost. She took me back and they said the did not want me I was to small. :-( She couldn't keep me because she already had a house full, so she called my new foster Mommy from Guardian Angel Pet Rescue and she had room for me, just not permanently! I would really like to find my forever home. I am Chocolate with white chest and am only 10 weeks old. I can already sit and stay, I know where my kennel is, and don't potty in her house. My mommy is great, but she would love for me to find a FOREVER home. If interested please e-mail her. I want to meet you!!

Dakota

Dakota is very sweet. She is now about a year and a half old. She has all her vaccinations, is on heartworm and flea prevention, and she has been spayed. She graduated from PetSmart obedience training and is crate-trained. She is small for a Lab, weighing 40 lbs. She would make a great dog for someone who has a big yard because she loves to run and play. She loves to play with my other two dogs, but she gets a little rough with the smaller one. She gets along with the cats, but plays a little too rough with them as well.

ALEXANDER

Alexander is a 26 lb. male soft wire-haired perhaps Pug mix - perhaps Brussels Griffon. He has a great temperament and is happy all the time. He gets along with other dogs and loves all people. He is heartworm negative, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and rabies. I would of course always crate a new dog in a new environment, but he is not crated in my house and does fine. This fine young man would do well in any family.

HEIDI

Heidi is a very sweet and loving young adult female Chow mix. She is housebroken and is not destructive at all. She is laidback and very low maintenance. She does have medium length hair and will need to be brushed to keep the undercoat maintained. She does have a flea allergy, so you will need to make sure her environment is kept flea free. This sweetheart deserved a wonderful, unstressful home. If you are looking for the perfect dog, here she is.

FONDUE

Fondue is an adorable 7-8 month old female Dachshund mix. She is about 12 lbs of muscular steel. She is sweet and affectionate with people. Fondue is very playful, but I would suggest if there is another dog in the home, it be a medium to large dog. She is too rough with smaller dogs. She is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed and on heartworm preventative. Fondue will be best with an active family - no couch potatoes.

NICHOLAS

Nicholas is appoximately three months old. He is shy around everyone right now, but he has not had any security. He has been bounced from home to home. He could be a Schnauzer mix, but he also has some of the characteristics of a Irish Wolfhound mix also. He has huge feet, but has a rather lanky build. Nicholas is is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

MOONDOGGIE - Adopted!

Moondoggie is a tri-colored male terrier who is approximately a year old. He was rescued from the Tipton Animal Shelter. He is a very sweet, but somewhat shy little guy weighing in at about 27 lbs. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and hw negative. Moondoggie gets along with other dogs. Moondoggie would probably do best in a home quieter home. But I think he will make a wonderful companion in the right home.

ALPINE

Hey! I’m Alpine. I am a male lab or retriever mix about 11 months old. I am about 20 inches tall and weigh about 50 pounds. I am neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on all my shots, and on flea and heartworm prevention. I am also potty, crate, and doggie door trained. When I was a little baby puppy all my brothers and sisters and I were dumped in ditch but then the guardian angels rescued us! I love my foster brothers and sisters and play well with them. I love balls and playing outside. As you can see from these pictures, I also enjoy relaxing on the couch, chewing on my bones, and watching TV with my foster mommy and daddy. I like my foster home, but there are a lot of other dogs here and I don’t get a lot of one-on-one time with my humans here like I’d like. Please consider adopting me. I am a really good boy and ready for a home with people of my very own.

I live with the pack leader, my foster Mom, two very big dogs, a medium dog, a cat, and last but not least me! (Yes I am smaller than the cat, I know that's embarrassing...) I am a terrier mix, possibly some Jack Russell, possibly some Westie - who cares I am cute!. I weigh around 7-8 lbs, am crate trained, neutered; and house trained.

CHAMP - ADOPTED!

Champ is a gorgeous 6 - 7 month old male black lab. He was left at Pope Animal Hospital over a month ago for an overnight stay and a bath and that is where he remains. His owners never came back to get him. So, their consciences are clear, but what happens to an abandoned dog? Obviously the vet clinic cannot keep Champ forever. They have to wait for a set amount of time before they can file abandonment papers. Then if nobody offers to take him, he has to go to Memphis Animal Shelter. That is usually the kiss of death for a black lab as about every other cage has a black lab in it. Well, Champ's time is up. We need to find a forever home for Champ very quickly - or a foster home at the least. He has a great temperament. He has had no problems with any of the staff or dogs at the vet clinic. Please consider Champ if you are looking for a companion for your family.

JHETT -Adopted!

Jhett is a 4 and a half month old female black lab mix. She was found out on a country road - more than likely dumped as we all know the place to dump animals is out in the courtry. She was found by a Good Samaritan who said she was just not going to let him get away. Jhett has not had an accident in the house and is very well mannered. She likes other dogs and has not met a stranger. She has had her first shots and is on the schedule to be spayed. This little girl is a keeper. She will make a wonderful new addition to any family.

BUDDY - ADOPTED!

Buddy is a fabulous dog; he is incredible around small children, and gets along with other dogs and even cats! He is the perfect buddy for kids - if they want to play, Buddy wants to play. If they want to take a nap, Buddy is content to curl up right beside them and nap too! (And yes, he does prefer children to grown ups. No puppy nipping or jumping from this little guy!) We are incredibly impressed with his manners, especially considering his rough start in life. He and his brother were rescued from a 20 foot deep storm drainage ditch, where they would have frozen that night. He knows his basic commands, like "sit" and "down". He is housebroken, crate trained, heartwork negative and up to date on all his vaccinations. He is about 8 months old, and weighs about 35 pounds.

If you are looking for a great dog for your family, you have found him!

O'Malley (Boy) - Adopted! Paddington Bear (Boy) - Adopted! Patches (Girl)

Proud Mom, Lorelei

Lorelei and her Puppies

On March 27th, Lorelei, a Jack Russell Terrier, went into labor and delivered Early Bird at 9:30 PM. By three in the morning, Lorelei had not had any more pups. Needless to say, I was concerned. At four, she delivered the second and by five, she had finally had the rest! Quite a big litter for such a small mom! So, "Early Bird", has a different birthday from his siblings. The puppies all just turned six weeks old, and they are ready to go to their forever families now. Lorelei is also up for adoption. She weighs between 15 and 20 pounds and is quite loving.

EVIE - ADOPTED

Evie is a gray/white female Shih Tzu, approximately 3-4 years old. She weighs 11 lbs and the picture does not do her justice. Evie is a former "backyard puppy mill" breeder dog. When she came to stay with me she was so weak she could hardly stand and walk. She almost appeared shellshocked. She was severly malnurished and emotionally broken. She has since recovered. Evie has a great appetite (becomes quite impatient when I'm preparing meals), and has gained much needed weight. She is payed, heartworm negative and on monthly prevention. and is up to day on vaccinations. Her housetraining is ongoing, but we're about 98% there. Not bad for a dog who spent her whole life in a cage! Evie is definitely a couch pototoe, laying around most of the time with her little stuffed doggy. She has recently started to interact with the other foster dogs. This adorable little girl needs a nice, calm home full of love to spend the rest of her life.

These Little Women are approximately 6 weeks old. Their mother was a Shih Tzu and dad was a Min Pin. They obviously look more likd dad, but Jo has a slight scruffiness to her which must come from mom. Who can resist these adorable babies. They had just had their first set of vaccinations. They are a little too young to have been separated from their mother, but the owner of mom and dad had already given a couple away and these sweethearts were on the way to the shelter.

Chester is a 1 year 9 month old Labrador Retriever. I am unable to keep him due to circumstances beyond my control. He is very loving, but very energetic. He loves to play and loves people. He has not been around other pets so I am not sure how he would behave. He is an outside dog, and has been since he was brought home. He needs an owner willing to work and be patient with him on his training. He will need a fenced in yard and possibly a home with a large yard. Chester is up to date on his shots. I have the vet records. He is on heart guard/flea preventative.

We think I’m a shepherd mix so I will most likely be a big dog. I was found in the backyard of my foster momma’s mom and Dad’s backyard, one of their big dogs dug a hole under the privacy fence just big enough for me to get through to let me in to play. I love to play with kids. I haven’t gotten use to a crate yet but I am learning and just started potty training. I hope to find my forever home. Fostered by: The Metcalfe Family

Pubah is a 5 year old, 70 pound, black lab and chow mix. He is very sweet with a gentle temperament. He gets along beautifully with all dogs as well as children. My late brother rescued Pubah’s mom as a stray, fell in love and kept her. She ended up mating with a black lab and had Pubah. Brent kept him too! All of his medical needs have been maintained, and we have all vet records. Pubah would do well in any family that could give him the love and exercise he needs to be happy. Kramer (Adopted) Elaine Jerry (Adopted)

Hello everyone! I'm Elaine and these are my two girls Jerry & Kramer. Why do they have boy names? WELL... our foster dad incorrectly identified them as boys when we were rescued. Of course when you adopt them you can change them to whatever you'd like.

I am a beagle, I am about 27 pounds, and I am... wait, I don't know how old I am! I have only one good eye on account of an old injury I received prior to my rescue. I am very skittish, especially around people I don't know. I am crate trained and am working on being house trained. I am warming up to the idea of walking on a leash and riding in a car. My babies are beagle mixes and are about 8 weeks old. Kramer is the larger of the two and Jerry, the one with all the spots, has a crooked tail. I gave birth to my girls and made a nest for them in the backyard of my foster dad's elderly neighbor. Our foster dad took us in, and good thing he did because it rained for two days after we were rescued. If you think you might be interested in opening up your home and your heart please contact the good folks at Guardian Angel Pet Rescue about filling out an adoption application. Trust me, you won't regret it.

RUDY
Age: 2 years, 4 months
Weight: 38 lbs
Breed: mixed

Likes: running, playing with his soccer ball, chewing on rawhide bones, belly rubs, sleeping in bed
Dislikes: the mailman, sharing his toys (only until he has chewed on them first - then its ok!)

Rudy is a very lovable and happy dog.  He is 100% housebroken and very friendly.  He answers to his name and knows how to sit on command.  He
loves to show how happy he is by wagging his tail and licking anyone's face that pets him.  He loves to get in the yard and run - especially
when someone is kicking his soccer ball or playing fetch with one of his toys.  He gets along well with other dogs, and likes to wrestle
and chase in the yard.  He does not eat too much and would make a great companion for someone living alone, with the means to walk him a
couple times a day or a yard  (He is still young and full of energy, so he needs to be able to exercise!!)  He is a great guard dog and
very protective of his home and family, but still makes friends with everyone with a proper introduction.

Freckles and she's a year old pointer/spaniel mix. She's 42 pounds of muscle. She's very active and loves to run. She gets along well with cats and small and large dogs. She love people also. She rolls on her back when she meets new dogs and rolls on her back for you to give her belly rubs. Crate trained and pretty much house trained. She knows how to sit. Very much a food driven dog, but not food aggressive. She should be fine with kids.

We cannot afford the boarding. He is a very sweet guy, full of energy. Valentine weighs about 40 lbs, is heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccinations and neutered.

Ronny is an adult male Maltese mix. He is such a good, calm boy. He weighs about 16 lbs., is heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccinations, and neutered. Ronny gets along well with other dogs although he does think he is bigger than he is. He has never shown any aggression of any kind and is great with people and I would be surprised if not okay with children although I would say toddlers might freak him out a bit. Ronny would make a great family companion. He would be fine as an only dog.

Little Lady - Adopted!

I was abandoned out in Shelby Forest by my, I thought, loving owners.  I had no food or water and did not know what a car or truck was.  I weight 31 lbs and am approximately 1 yr.  My new foster parents took me in and gave me a home to share and the Guardian Angels are trying to find me a family of my own.  I love people and interact well with other dogs.  I do not bark uncontrollably, I just need a little love and friendship.  I spin for my food and my foster mom is teaching me to sit and stay.  I am a very quick learner.  My new parents are trying to spend as much time as they can to help me learn the dos and don’ts of the doggie world.

I am a very good girl and just need a little time spent with me and I will love you for the rest of my life.  Please help me find a home.

Loving you ,
“Little Lady”

RUDY - ADOPTED!

Rudy is a beautiful pomeranian, jet black with white chest, who apparently wandered into someone's yard when the gate was opened, then
closed without realizing he was there until much later. He didn't appear to be malnourished or have any signs of abuse or neglect; unfortunately also didn't have a collar or microchip. He is very friendly and sweet natured, loves to cuddle on couch and bed, loves to
run and play and roughhouse with my other dogs. I don't have cats, so can't comment on that. He's totally housebroken and not at all
destructive. Rudy is an absolute love muffin and needs a forever home with someone who will keep him safe and love and cherish him as he
deserves. He has been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, and is heartworm negative and on preventative.

“Amanda” means “she who must be loved” or “precious one”. I DO need love and I AM precious, that’s why my foster mom and dad call me “Mandie”. My neighbor called the guardian angels because my first family moved away and left me in the backyard with no food, water, or doghouse. I was really cold and lonely at night, but then my angels came to get me! I got good food, fresh water, lots of sleep, a little medicine, and I am feeling so much better! My foster mommy says I am the sweetest dog she’s ever known and laughs at me when I trip over my big puppy feet. I am about three months old, going through all my puppy shots, and have been spayed. I love to play with all my foster brothers and sisters. I am crate trained and doing well with potty training. I am a real snuggler. Let me prove to you just how “precious” I really am, just like my name!

Sadie Harris - Adopted

Hi, my name is Sadie.  I'm 12-15 wks old and love to play.  I also love to snuggle and give hugs.  I do really well with other dogs and cats.  I have had my first round of shots and am almost house trained.  I'm part lab and maybe collie of some sort so I will get kind of big.  Right now I weigh about 15 lbs and growing.  Please take me home with you to my forever home.

BEAU

15 inches  tall and 12 pounds

Beau is a Rat Terrier mix, about a year old. He loves everyone. Beau is heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccinations and neutered. He is crate-trained and 98% housebroken. Beau would be great in a home with another small or medium dog to play with.  His right front leg was broken sometime in his early life, and it wasn't set...so he has a crooked leg and a limp...but it doesn't slow him down one bit!  He's very playful and loves his chew toys.  He can be a little possessive of his toys, his person, and his space when he is sleeping...he'll let you know, but has never bitten anyone.  He would make a great companion and needs to find his forever home.

Lulu - Adopted!

Little Lulu was the love of my mother's life. She was a rescue when only a puppy, being left on the mean Memphis streets. At first, momma didn't want a dog... she was certain she would find the rightful owner of this puppy. As the days passed and the owner was not located, my mom couldn't help but fall in love with the pup's soulful brown eyes and sweet temperament. My mom soon couldn't imagine parting with Lulu and often called to tell me about the latest cute thing Lulu had done.

In December, my mom passed away so Lulu is searching for another sweet person to call her very own. This person would need to be okay with having a little dog that loves to be close to them, is lazy and doesn't care for much exercise, is house trained, can get along with other dogs/cats as long as she has her own food bowl, and still likes to play with toys. Lulu has transitioned well from being the "only child" to living with a three year old little girl.

Lulu is in good health and has been spayed. She is still full of life and is certain to bring much joy to anyone willing to open their hearts and home to her. Lulu doesn't bark a lot other than when a doorbell is rang, knocks at the door, or a strange dog appears on television.

Emmett -Adopted!
Emmett is about 15 weeks old and is a true survivor.  He was one of 10 puppies, of which only 3 survived due to severe malnutrition.  The mother and 7 puppies died because the owner neglected the mother and thought she could feed all of her babies with very little food and no clean water.

Emmett came to us severely dehydrated and was unable to even drink water the first night we had him.  We syringed water into
his mouth every little while during the first night and the next day he was able to drink by himself and eat a little softened dog food.
His tummy was severely distended.  We treated him for worms and within 2 weeks he was bouncing around like all little puppies.

Emmett  is working on potty training, and uses a puppy pad in case he doesn't make it outside.  He is very lovable and now very strong.  Emmett loves to play and gets along with all other sized dogs and is fine with cats.

He travels in the car well and loves to be cuddled. His temperament does not show any signs of the neglect he suffered early on.  Emmett is a brindle color with a beautiful black mask that looks like velvet. He is not beautiful, but he is so darn cute.

Please make reservations for these five adorable puppies. The mom, Grace, is about 35lbs and looks like a small Flat Coat Retriever. I have no idea who the dads were. Mom was pregnant at the time of rescue. There are four females and one male. They are four weeks old and cannot leave mom for at least another three weeks. They are starting to eat some dry food. They appear to be very healthy and active. They have been dewormed twice and will received first set of shots in two weeks. Would make great family pets!

Harley

Harley is a four year old Corgi mix that we adopted out two years ago. His owner died about a year and a half ago and his wife almost returned him then as she was a little overwhelmed.  But she continued to take care of him until she had to move in with her daughter and she could not take Harley.  She found a home for him with a friend, but that fell through also.  So, Harley was returned a couple of weeks ago to his former foster home.  They were happy to have him back as he is a great little guy with a wonderful personality.  Sunday morning about 4:30 am he woke his foster parents up screaming in pain.  He could not move his back.  They rushed him to Animal Emergency where it was determined he had a ruptured disc.  The emergency room bill alone was about $800.00 to keep him stable until Monday morning.

He was taken to Med Vets this morning and had to have emergency surgery.  The estimated cost of the surgery is $3500.00.  We have just had a rash of medical bill for the past few months and really are in need of donations for the medical bills on Harley.  The second picture is right after he was taken off the IV's at the emergency clinic.  He cannot move and look at how happy he is.  We have to try to save this little guy!

Update on Harley (in wheelchair) as of May 27, 2009.

Harley has completed his physical therapy with Dr. McCutcheon. He is to come back for checkups periodically. We have a foster couple who have been a particular blessing to us for taking in handicapped dogs and they have taken Harley into their home. They absolutely love him and have changed their life around to accommodate him and his special needs. Thanks Alice and Jim.

Subject: Update on Harley

Called and got to talk to the Doctor today.

She said that Harley's sore on his butt is much better. She said when she picked him up at MedVets, it was open all the way to the bone. But now it has closed most of the way and is healing. He also said he had one that was starting on his hip at that time but that it has healed.

His new cart came in today and so she said they will be getting him in that. She said it will allow him to go outside and run and play better with the other dogs. She said he likes to go out and run with the other dogs, but tends to tip himself over. The new cart will be better to allow him to play.
She has been working with him in the pool and he seems to like that. She said she has a life jacket for him but has had to order a bigger one for him and that should be in soon.

Also said he has gotten back partial withdrawal reflex in his back paws. A reflex like that doesn't help with gaining back the ability to stand, but they are continuing to work with him and do rehab. They are still having to express his bladder for him. However, they have been able to work with him to develop a reflex that when they hold his tail up and wag it, it makes him poop which has been good for them.

Subject: Mr. Harley and His Cart

We went and saw Harley. He was so excited to see us and was just rolling around the clinic when we came in. He looks great and it is happy as ever. I don't think he knows he is paralyzed. Lots of kisses for us. He was having fun playing with a couple of other dogs at the clinic and has made friends with a cat there too. Has not lost any of that playfulness. He is still in the cart that Dr. had at the office and his customized cart should be in any day now. We didn't have a chance to talk to the doctor when we were there but hopefully can just check in with her next week. He really looks great! We were so happy to see him.

Update on Harley Monday, September 15, 2008 1:34:47 PM

Harley has left the hospital and is undergoing physical therapy for the next three months.  He is still paralyzed and chances are he will
remain so.  We did get a donation of funds from two wonderful ladies in Los Angeles, CA to pay for a customized wheelchair.  Thank you so much Barbara Bettke and Cecilia Sonsini for your generousity!!!

We have had some very generous donations to help with the cost of surgery and hospital stay, but we are still so very far from paying it off. Any help that you can give us is very much needed and appreciated.

Update: Thursday, August 28

Harley underwent his emergency surgery on Monday, August 25th. Currently, Harley is still at Med Vets and has not yet regained feeling or movement in his back legs and they are still needing to express his bladder for him. The doctors are monitoring him and watching for any change. They have said that sometimes it can take longer for them to regain movement and feeling so we are still hopeful everyday that he will show signs of improvement on those. Other than that thought, Harley is in good spirits and eating well. The nurses have had him in a harness that supports his back and hind legs but allows him to walk with his front so he can move around and feel a little more independent. Please continue to keep Harley in your thoughts and prayers and will post updates as they come along.

New! MIA  New! Mia is less than 25 pounds!

Hi!  I’m Mia.  My owner dumped me and my 6, 4-week-old babies off at the Tipton County Animal Shelter once we became too much to handle.  We all stayed at a guardian angel’s house while I took care of my babies.  All except one of my puppies have been adopted and now it is time to focus on me.  I need to be spayed and have knee surgery.  My fat, healthy puppies put too much strain on my little joints, but I should make a full recovery.  I am 20 pounds and full grown.  I am SO sweet, calm, and laid back.  I love to sleep in bed with my current guardian angels, follow them all over the house, and get my chest scratched.  I am great with other dogs, but would do perfectly well in a house without them, too.  I am up-to-date on my shots and crate and house trained.  I should be ready for adoption around the first part of February.  If you are interested in me and willing to wait until I am perfectly well, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

CHANTILLY

Chantilly is a 6 month old female yellow lab mix.  We are not sure what the mix is except she is going to be a very stocky, short dog.  She was rescued from Tipton Animal Shelter with two other puppies.  Out of the three puppies, she is  the only one that did not get sick.  One of the puppies got parvo and survived and the other died of distemper.  Chantilly has a great immune system.  She gets along with other dogs.  Probably would be best if she went to a home without cats.  She is a little food aggressive as she is scared she is not going to get every last morsel.  She would probably need to eat separately.  Chantilly is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and on heartworm preventative.  She is pretty laidback and would make a great companion.

BABER - Adopted!

Baber is a 5-month old female terrier that was found by a Good Samaritan in Rodney Baber Park.  This sweet 22 lb. girl has been carrying around an umbilical hernia since birth which is now the size of a cantaloupe.  Guardian Angel Pet Rescue has had the hernia assessed by several veterinarians and it has been found that only a Board Certified Veterinarian can handle this surgery.  The surgery calls for mesh to be used in repairing the hernia.  The cost of the surgery will be $2000.00.

Update

Monday, August 25, 2008 12:12:36 AM

Baber is doing very well.  She really wants to run, play, jump onto the furniture and romp with the other dogs in her foster home.  She has to stay in her crate to keep her quiet.  Baber is walked on a leash to potty, so she does not start running and jumping.  She will be on  pain medicine & antibiotics until the 28th. She is completely wrapped around her belly and onto her back.  This not only protects her incision site, but also helps everything heal the way it should.  The foster family said she is a real love bug.

Update

Sunday 8/17/08  10:30 a.m.

Baber is resting comfortably.  She is on pain medicine and antibiotics.  The bag, which originally held her insides, is draining well.  She will receive her next pain meds about noon and will be taken outside to potty.

No idea at this time when she can leave the clinic.

Update

Friday 8/15/2008 1:15 p.m.

Dr. Royal just called, it is 1:15 p.m. Friday and the surgery on Baber is almost complete.  She tolerated the surgery well.  They were able to close the opening up with moving some muscle around and no mesh.  She will have a drain with a suction bulb to keep fluid from building up in the bag which held all of her insides.  Depending on how soon the suction drain can be removed she should be home by Tuesday or Wednesday.  Then she must be keep quiet for a couple of weeks after that.  She will be sore because her abdominal cavity did not grow to hold all the organs and tissue which was in the hanging bag.  It was a little tight, but he said it will stretch as she grows.

He has recently graduated from a 4 week obedience training course with Alpha K-9 School in Jackson, MS where he learned to have very nice manners. Alpha K-9’s branch in Memphis will “teach” new owners what Benito already knows and how to handle him. He is very affectionate and loves people – enjoys cuddling and watching tv in the evenings, crate trained, loves to ride in the car, plays ball with intensity, loves to go for walks, and has a great personality!  He really just wants to be your buddy and companion. He does require a backyard with space to run, lots of attention, and in return he promises to be the best friend you ever had! Benito is ideal for a single person or couple with no young children.  The same foster parents have done all the hard work for you in  bringing up Benito  since he was 4 months old…..now it’s your turn to be his forever parents! There is still a lot of puppy in him so he is very active. He is crate trained. He is up to date right now on all of his shots and is due for another round at the end of July. He has been on heart worm preventative. He is not neutered

HARLEY

My name is Harley, and I'm a female, cream-colored Shepherd mix. I'm about 18-24 months old. I was abandoned by my first mama when she moved away. Since I've been with my foster mama I've been spayed, had all of my shots, including a 3 year rabies shot, and am on heartworm preventative. I'm very playful and lovable! I like to play with the cats, but they don't seem to like me because I'm so active, I guess. I used to have a little boy to play with when I was with my first mama. I get along with the other dogs at my foster mama's house, too. Especially the boy dogs! I'm very smart and learn quickly. Please give me a chance to be your special friend!

Katy & Kamy

Katy and her sister Kamy were found by Tipton County Animal Control wandering through the back roads of Brighton, TN. When they were taken to the shelter they were only 3 months old and were grossly underweight only weighing 12 and 10 pounds. Now they are 17 months old, 17 inches tall (at the shoulder) and weigh about 40 pounds. Katy and Kamy are very smart; already crate trained, house trained and know a few basic commands. They are both loving dogs that are extremely appreciative of being rescued and love to cuddle to show their appreciation. Katy and Kamy are playful puppies that probably need to live with another dog; they are very well behaved and enjoy curling up on the couch with each other or with any human. Katy and Kamy live with 2 cats and 2 other dogs and get along with them. Katy gets along better with children and cats than Kamy does. If you and your dog are looking for a young dog that has a lot of love and loyalty to give then you have found her. Or if you are looking for 2 dogs (2 is better than 1 because they can keep each other company when you are busy) then Katy and her sister Kamy would love to call you their new family.

     Approximate age:  6 months

Weight:  35 lbs

Training:   Crate trained -  No   Housetrained -  Not yet

Hi, I was given the name Aladdin at birth, but my foster mother calls me Lad.  Our other is a beagle mix weighing only 20 lbs and our father is an Aussie mix weighing about 45 lbs. My mother lived on her own in Mississippi for about four years without human love until she found my foster mother.  She had been shot but luckily the bullet went in and out without hitting any bones.   I am sweet, lovable, intelligent and as you can see, very handsome!  I get along well with other dogs, cats and children.

CRUMP SISTERS

We are the Crump sisters.  We came from Crump Boulevard where they also found our mother Annie and our nine half siblings from second marriage.  I am the lovely tan sister on your left with the white on my muzzle and feet.  I am Ms. Spot.  My sister on the right with the lovely red hair is Ms. Wayne.  When our Guardian Angels came to rescue us we were living outdoors and had had very little human contact much less any love and affection.  We were terribly scared of these wonderful angels that picked us up, but we could tell that they were there to help us.  We were very skittish and are still somewhat shy even though we love our foster mom and foster siblings very much.  It is still hard for us to trust the touch of a human hand even though it is oh so wonderful!!!  Even though we had never set foot in a house, we have never had an accident.  We are crate-trained and housebroken.  We do not tear anything up, but we might get into mischief if left uncrated while you are not home - especially my sister.  Nothing major.  We are heartworm negative, spayed and up-to-date on everything.  We are very playful and love to play.  My sister and I are very bonded as we have never been apart, but I know we may not get adopted together.  I think we would be alright if our new family had another dog.  With a little patience we would make a loving companion for anyone.

BEAR

This handsome three and a half year old cattle dog mix is Bear.  He is the most charming, friendly guy you will ever meet.  He is up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered.  He is totally housebroken and is never crated.  The only thing you have to remember is to keep your blinds up enough for him to see you come and go.  He will make a spot if you don't leave one.  Bear is good with most other animals, but I would probably not leave him unattended with a tiny dog.  He is fine with some, but some he is not.  He has been at his foster home for almost three years because the older son was very bonded to him.  Hopes were that he would be able to take him when moving out, but that was not the case.  He likes males, females and children.  Loves to go for rides and walks.  Would make a great running companion.

Wilson

                                                                                                  Breed: Boxer and Beagle mix

                                                                  Age: Approx. 1 year old

                                                                  Height: 18 in. at shoulder

                                                                  Weight: 35 lbs.

Wilson is up to date on vaccines, on heartworm preventative and has been
neutered. He is housetrained and crate trained. Wilson would do best in a
home without any small children or any other dogs. He is very playful like a
puppy, has a lot of energy and will follow you wherever you go. He needs a
home with someone who is willing to work with him on his training and give
him the opportunity to run off some energy.

Lenny

Breed: Border Collie mix

Age: Approx. 4 months on 12/8/06

Height: 24 in. at shoulder

Weight: 30 lbs.

Lenny and his mom were rescued from the Marion Animal Shelter. He is up to date on vaccines, is on heartworm preventative, has been neutered and is housetrained. Here’s his story:  Hi, my name is Lenny and I am an adorable male Border Collie mix. I am not sure what other breed I am mixed with but it is big. My mom and I came from the Marion Animal Shelter. All of my other siblings had been adopted and our time was running out. As a matter of fact, one of the other Guardian Angels has two of my siblings. My mother was adopted a month ago to a wonderful home and I am now waiting for my forever family to find me. I walk well on a leash. I get along with other dogs and people but have not been around cats yet. I can make very humorous facial expressions for you. I am going to be a big boy so don’t expect me to be small when I’m fully grown. I love to play and need a yard to show you what I can do. If you give me a chance I will be a wonderful and loving companion.

Natasha-Adopted!

Breed: Yellow Lab, Shepherd and Chow mix

Guardian Angel received a plea from a woman who could not stand how the owner of eight puppies, their mother and two of her older puppies were being treated. A number of rescue organizations were called; Guardian Angel was there to help. Natasha is one of the eight young puppies. She is a sweet and very pretty female puppy. She is up to date on vaccinations and has been spayed. The foster family is working on her housetraining and crate training. Natasha loves playing with other dogs but has not been around cats. She will be a large dog when fully grown.

Lil Bit has been in rescue a couple of years. He sees his foster brothers and sisters come and go and he wonders why he is still here. He would love a home of his own either by himself or with one or two other dogs. He is up to date on vaccines, is on heartworm preventative and is neutered. He’s housetrained and crate trained. Lil Bit is a very loving companion animal and enjoys being with children. He gets along with all other dogs and cats. Lil Bit could use more walking or less food – he’ll be a great dog to join you on your walks or to train for agility.

SAMANTHA

Hi, my name is Samantha. I am up-to-date on all of my shots, spayed,
and current on heartworm preventative. I was found scrounging for food
and living behind an air-conditioning unit. Thankfully, I was rescued
from the cold, cruel, outdoor life of a stray with my 6 newborn puppies
in December of 2005. Four of my puppies have been adopted and are
living with wonderful new families. Remaining, are myself and one of my
puppies....... "Fiona", searching for our forever homes. It is
believed I may have some Blue Heeler or Australian Shepherd in my
background and I am full grown at around 40lb. I have a sweet
temperament and do well with other dogs. Please consider me for your
family.  I have so much love to share.

"Samantha will require a 6 foot wood fence"

MS. BEA

Mrs. Bea and her four puppies were found abandoned on the side of Collierville/Arlington Road during the last snow.  Momma is a female Mastiff mix and weights about 80 lbs.  Although she is a full figure woman, she is very gentle soul with very warm eyes.  She loves to cuddle.  She loves both children and adults and would make a very loyal companion.  She is up-to-date on vaccinations and will be spayed before adoption.  She will be starting heartworm treatment soon as she is heartworm positive.

Her three puppies are:  Freckles    Speck   &  Brutus

The puppies are 5 months old and weigh about 30 lbs.  Freckles was given her name because of the slight sprinkling of freckles across her nose.  She is very sweet, playful, and loves to give kisses.  Freckles can't wait for her foster family's children to get home from school in the afternoons so they can run and play with her.  Speck has a small scar on his left cheek from previous living conditions, but his foster family says it gives him character.  He is a little cautious of newcomers, but warms up quickly.  Speck has a lot of energy and loves to play.  Brutus is a handsome boy with a very expressive face.  He is playful, curious and loves children.  Although all three boys love their foster family, they are ready to get settled in a forever home.  They are up-to-date on shots, neutered and on heartworm preventative.  They would make a wonderful addition to your family.

COURTESY POSTING

Betty Thorne
cottonbartlett@yahoo.com
274-9030 (work)

One of our colleagues is having a baby and was about to take her dog to the pound.  I cannot stand the thought of any dog going there
because that is like signing their death warrant (especially large breed dogs) so he is now residing at my house.  I however absolutely
cannot keep him permanently because I already have a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd.  I have attached his picture above.  His name is
Rascal.  I am not a fan of that name so I have tried calling him Duke to see if I can get him to recognize that name but no luck so far.  He
is husky and lab mix.  Currently he is not neutered (why is beyond me) but we are going to the vet this weekend to get that taken care of.
He is very timid at first but once he gets used to you he is very friendly.  He gets along amazingly well with other dogs and should not
grow any larger.I will post information again once I get him assessed at the vet.  My boyfriend has given me a 2 week time limit to find him a home before he has to go to the pound so PLEASE CROSS POST this far and wide if you know anyone who may be looking for a dog or would be willing to keep him for a longer period of time while he finds a home.  I am very willing to drive him out of state or wherever is necessary to get him a good home. He is a wonderful companion and I can't imagine taking him to the pound.  Please help!

ROCKY

Rat Terrier mix    20 pounds  16 inches at shoulders

SENIOR DOG WHO NEEDS HIS OWN FAMILY.

He is about 8 - 10 years old. Rocky is a wonderful dog and he came to us with a sad story. He was attacked by a dog, then his owners took him to a boarding kennel and never came back for him. Rocky came into the rescue after he had lived at the kennel for 4 months. He has been the perfect dog. Rarely does he jump on you and when he does it is so gentle. Normally he will just walk up to you, sit in front of you and look into your face with those sad brown eyes. He is the perfect dog, housetrained, does not chew or tear up anything. He loves to sleep in a small cat bed in the office of his foster Mom. Rocky gets along with cats and other dogs. He is good with children also. IF you want a dog to retrieve, chase balls and play Frisbee, this is NOT the one for you. He is more than glad to share the sofa or bed with you, but if necessary he will sleep on the floor in his own bed. He is ready to go into his forever home.

Honey

Breed: Puggle (beagle and pug)       Approximate age: 18 mos    Height at shoulder: 16 inches

Weight:  20#  Spayed or neutered -  spayed  On heartworm preventative -  yes

Vaccines – UTD  Crate trained -  Yes       Housetrained -    Yes

Honey was found running in a shopping center parking lot by Good Samaritan.  Because of the Good Sam’s situation she was moved into a friend’s home, and then we were asked to take her.  Poor honey has been in 5 different places.  She is really friendly and very loving.  Honey seems to have been abused by a man.  She is fine in my home, and when we are around other people she is fine with men.  It seems when she is in a home without me and the man is tall she becomes protective of the lady of the house.  She will be a great pet, if you will take the time for her to trust the men in her life.  I feel if the men she is around are not 6 feet or taller she will be fine.

HONEY

Honey is a 5 year old medium mixed breed.  Her owner surrendered her to Guardian Angel because she could no longer afford to keep her.  Honey loves to cuddle and be close to loved ones.  She enjoys walks and car rides.  She sleeps on a rug beside the bed.  She is housebroken and crate-trained.  She plays with other dogs but would not mind being an only dog.

ALEX

22 INCHES TALL       50 POUNDS    3 YEARS OLD

A Good Samaritan found Alex and his 7 brothers and sisters in a recycle bin in the Wolf River Bottoms. It was in December of 2004 and fortunately for them it had been warm since they were only about 6 weeks old. They were fostered with the family and most have found their forever home. Sadly, Alex is still looking for his forever home. He is about 4 years old, weighs 55 pounds, is 22 inches tall, housetrained, neutered, current on shots and on heartworm preventative. His most unique characteristic would have to be his beautiful eyes; they match his fur. Alex is a great dog, he loves to ride in the car, play with people, other dogs and even children. He gets a silly grin on his face which makes you laugh. Alex is excited to see you when you come home but soon settles down and will be a couch potato while you watch TV. If you are looking for a unique, young adult dog then you have found him!

SNOOPY

Courtesy Posting

Note from rescuer......We found Snoopy, alone and emaciated on I65 North at the 43 mile marker. We stopped and tried to get her to come to us but she ran into the woods and we could not find her. We went and bought some plain McDonalds cheeseburgers and came back and spread pieces of the burgers around the edge of the woods where she went but she did not come out. We went home that night and prayed the little dog made it through the night. The high on Saturday was 25 degrees F and the Low was 13. We went back to the same area on Sunday afternoon and she was still there sitting at the edge of the woods. She ran from us again and went into a water drain off pipe that ran under the North side of the interstate out into the median. My daughter and her boyfriend went out into the median and took the grill off of the drain and my oldest son crawled on his belly through the entire drain pipe under the interstate to flush her out in the median where my daughter was waiting to catch her. She was terrified and bit my daughter pretty bad but she held on. She tried to bite the rest of us when we tried to pick her up to put her in the truck. But once in the truck she calmed down and she has been a calm sweet girl ever since. She has tested positive for Heartworms, needs several teeth surgically removed and needs to be spayed. She is on the road to recovery and learning to live in a house and have good manners.   http://www.dogster.com/dogs/705454

ZOEY

Courtesy Posting

Hi! My name is Zoey. I am from the island of Guam. My parents adopted me from a local shelter there and brought me back to the United States. I have been living in Memphis for the past two years. I just turned three in October. I have all of my shots and am fixed. Mom and dad are looking for a good home for me. They say that I would be best as an only dog. I do have one sister now and I tolerate her, but I love attention and I love to play. I am VERY smart. I can sit, stay, roll over, and fetch. Oh, I also ring a set of jingle bells at the door when I have to go potty! I have to tell you that I do not like other dogs, especially those that I don’t know. I get very nervous and upset when I meet new dogs. I am not sure how I would act around children, but I love my mom and dad very much and am an angel at home. My goal in life is to please them, I listen very well. I love to snuggle, give kisses and watch animal planet. Mom and dad will not put me in a shelter. They want to make sure I get a safe and loving home. I look forward to meeting my new best friend!

Our dear friend and fellow Guardian Angel, Debbie Osswald, lost her battle with breast cancer and left behind two wonderful male dogs.  Debbie’s husband is not able to continue her rescue work as he travels much of the time.  It is our desire to find the best possible homes for both of Debbie’s rescue dogs.  We would love to see these two stay together as they have been together for a very long time.  However, if that is not possible, we would be willing to split them up.  Please give consideration to providing one or both of them a loving home like the one Debbie provided for them.

Buddy

Buddy is 4 years old and is thought to be a Curley Coated Retriever and Cocker spaniel mix.  His birth date is 06-01-03 and he weighs 53 lbs.  Buddy loves people (thus his name!) and he also is very good natured.  He loves to play and can fetch.  Buddy is crate-trained, neutered and micro-chipped.  He gets along with other dogs and also loves his large fenced yard.

Please consider helping us to find the perfect home for Buddy.  They meant a lot to Debbie and we want to see them happy and healthy in a new home.

Congratulations to Ralphie! He is settling in comfortably with his new family.
