EVER THINK OF FOSTERING?
THESE DOGS COULD REALLY USE SOME TLC FROM YOU!
The fire victims are: Harley (1.5 years old) and her pups (5-6 months). Harley and pups came from a horrible situation - very bad shape. They came from a house (junky backyard) that burned this week (1/13/05) in Memphis in the Berclair area. They were full of worms, very undernourished, not real social and mom is heartworm positive. The guy had been dipping them in used motor oil for parasites, never had shots, full of every worm possible. The guy called me today and had to "get rid of the daddy dog because he sick and is staying with his grandparents who breed dogs and the daddy dog - appropriately named Scrappy - is too sick to be around their breeding dogs" We just got back from taking Scrappy to the vet's office - he is being observed until Monday morning (1/17/05). Scrappy is VERY undernourished, of course, hw positive, has some type of skin condition - tested negative for mange, but has open wounds, etc. All these new rescues are very ribby and boney.

UPDATE 3/22/05
Their road remains rocky even after rescue....
Harley & Scrappy spent a month in boarding after their first foster mom gave up on them shortly after she rescued them. She dropped all 4 of them off at a boarding kennel and then called us to let us know where they were. After 2 weeks, both of their pups found a home but Mom & Dad were not so lucky. They spent a couple more weeks there and ran up a boarding fee of over $1000.00!!!!! YIKES!!! Despite receiving the best care possible in the kennel, neither dog did very well there. In fact, Harley lost some of the weight she had gained after her rescue. Currently they are settled in a new temporary home but really need a new foster home so they can start hw treatment & Harley can undergo entropian (eye) surgery.
Feel the need to help, but can't foster or adopt? That's ok! Please make a donation to help us give them the very best medical care possible. They deserve it.
